High Risk and Catastrophic Consequences
Whenever a vehicle is stolen there is a risk of it being contaminated with hazardous objects, drugs and drug paraphernalia, weapons, biological hazards, sharp items and other hazards. Of particular concern are the:
- Nature of the hazards and the level of risk they pose
- Frequency at which hazards are presented
- Probability of serious injury and death
While all types of hazards are of significant concern hypodermic needles, prescription and illegal drugs, drug-related paraphernalia and weapons create a potential for catastrophic consequences. Examples include:
- Needle stick injuries suffered by staff, contractors or customers where there is potential for infection with debilitating and lethal viruses and diseases.
- Poisoning or overdose, where a vehicle is returned to a customer, or on-sold to a third party and an infant or child discovers residual drugs and ingests those drugs, or indirectly ingests them, by placing any drug paraphernalia into their mouth.
